HARRISBURG – Five senior centers in the 31st Senatorial District have been awarded approximately $102,000 in state grants through the state Department of Aging to help fund programs and services for area seniors, according to Senator Mike Regan (R-31).
These centers include:
- West Shore Senior Center – Cumberland County – $10,570
- Mechanicsburg Place: A Senior Center and More – Cumberland County – $54,861
- Carlisle Senior Action Center – Cumberland County — $6,248
- Windy Hill Senior Center, Inc. – York County — $22,026
- *Red Land Senior Center, York County — $8,090
“Senior community centers are a lifeline for older Pennsylvanians, providing activities, nutritious meals and other resources to help our seniors age in place,” Regan said. “They are an important community resource, so it’s vital that we invest in them and ensure that they continue to provide these much-needed services.”
He noted that senior centers also provide educational opportunities, transportation services, financial and insurance counseling, exercise programs, and more.
“As we continue to recover from COVID-19 and open up our communities, these and other services will be vital to helping seniors who may be longing for the familiarity and reliability of these facilities,” Regan said. “I’m so pleased that our area and its residents will benefit from this funding.”
*Red Land Senior Center is located in the 48th Senatorial District but serves the area in and around Lewisberry, PA, which spans both the 31st and the 48th Senatorial Districts.
