(HARRISBURG) – Today Senator Mike Regan (R-31) joined his Senate colleagues in approving a $25.8 billion interim budget for Fiscal Year 2020-2021, as well as a funding plan allocating $2.6 billion in federal CARES funding to support individuals, small businesses, organizations and county governments.
House Bill 2387 is a spending plan that provides five months of funding for most state agencies and services based primarily on current Fiscal Year funding amounts. Full-year funding is provided for a few select line items, notably for education and food security programs.
“The interim budget passed today ensures continued operations of state government and state-funded programs like our education system until we have a better understanding of state revenues after the July 15th tax deadline and as things continue to playout with the economic impact from Governor Wolf’s COVID-19 shutdown,” said Regan.
Senate Bill 1108 appropriates a portion of Pennsylvania’s federal CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act funding for critical needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am particularly proud to see that the School Safety and Security Fund will receive $214 million to protect our children and teachers – an all-time record level of funding,” expressed Regan. “I commend my colleagues for recognizing the growing need for school safety dollars, especially as students and teachers return to the classroom this fall.”
House Bill 2387 and Senate Bill 1108 now go to the Governor for his signature.
