HARRISBURG, PA – School safety and security grants totaling over $1,000,000 were awarded today to the 31st Senatorial District school districts in Cumberland and York Counties, according to Senator Mike Regan.
The following School Districts will receive the subsequent awards:

| Cumberland Valley SD | $ 45,000.00 |
| East Pennsboro Area SD | $ 40,000.00 |
| Mechanicsburg Area SD | $ 45,000.00 |
| South Middleton SD | $ 40,000.00 |
| Dover Area SD | $ 323,644.00 |
| Northern York County SD | $ 40,000.00 |
| Spring Grove Area SD | $ 237,004.00 |
| West Shore SD | $ 45,000.00 |
Eligible uses for the grants include hiring school security officers, purchasing security-related technology, completing safety and security assessments, implementing violence prevention curricula, offering counseling services for students, and creating other programs to protect students.
The grants were awarded by the School Safety and Security Committee within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) as part of the School Safety and Security Grant Program.
“There is nothing more important than protecting our children and educators by ensuring our schools are safe and secure. These grants are the product of Act 44 of 2018, and I look forward to growing this grant program in this year’s state budget.” Regan said.
A total of approximately $53.7 million was awarded for 524 projects throughout the state in the current round of funding. PCCD received a total of 970 applications totaling $134.5 million for school safety projects in the current Fiscal Year.
In spite of the popularity and importance of the program, Governor Wolf’s 2020-21 budget proposed to cut $45 million from the program next year – a 75-percent reduction. Senator Regan and his colleagues in the Senate Republican Caucus have made restoring this funding a top priority in budget negotiations.
